My family and I are so excited to be at Washington Pike UMC!"

I graduated with my M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary, and I am bilingual in both Spanish and English.  My passions are reading, writing, and sharing the love of Christ with others through evangelism and discipleship.  My goal in ministry is to make disciples for the transformation of the world.  Consequently, I take very seriously my responsibility both to share God’s love and to divide the Word of God rightly.

“I like to tell the kids… Show me your friends and I'll show you your future!”

I became a member of the church at the age of 10 and was an active part of our middle and high school youth programs.  We were active in many community service projects and I participated in a mission trip to Mexico. In my early teens, I assisted with the preparation and installation of the Sanctuary pipe organ and construction of the Christian Outreach Center.  Over the years I’ve been involved in various areas of the church, including the Audio Visual Dept., Adult Choir, Building Maintenance, and Technology.  My wife, Tammy and Ihave been married since 1989 and have one grown son, Matthew.  He loves spending time with family, DIY projects and doing yardwork (not for hire – his own yard only!

Hi, Im Cynthia Brian, the Music Leader at WPUMC. I have a deep love for all types of worship music and believe music is an integral component of the worship service every week. Music affects people in different ways, so it’s important to have a variety of Christian styles to reach the members of our congregation. My goal for the music department at WPUMC is growth. I’d like to expand our choir and add more musicians to our already talented group.

I have grown up at Washington Pike since my family moved back to Knoxville from St. Louis.  During my elementary school years, I began taking piano lessons. After attending Belle Morris and Whittle Springs, I graduated from Fulton High School.  I then graduated from Emory and Henry College and received my masters degree from the University of Tennessee.  I am a retired Knox County school teacher.  My husband, Chris, and I have two children, one grandson, and one grand dog.

I have played piano and sung in the choir since I returned from college.  I’ve played the piano for Church services for many years and then took on the responsibilities of the pipe organ a few years ago.  It has been my honor and my blessing to provide music for the worship services! I believe in the old saying that music is prayer without words.
I play the piano and the organ to praise my Lord.  I hope that I can continue to share music with our congregation in the Lord’s praise.

Organist

BRENDA MARTIN… “Our organ and the congregation’s voices lend a grand sound to Sunday Morning Services!”

My name is Susan Hines. I am a local piano teacher who also enjoys volunteering my time as one of the pianists for our church. I love praise music as well as hymns and old-time gospel music. I like the cooperation among musicians and providing well thought out music for our services. I have been a member for over twenty four years at WPUMC.

I grew up as a part of the Washington Pike church family. I have been attending since I was three months old.  I have had  the privilege of many wonderful experiences that have created long lasting memories while at WPUMC.  I strive to provide the same for our members, visitors, and community.
I graduated from UTK with a child and family studies degree. I have taught preschool for Knox county schools since 2012.  Educating students is my passion. Being able to come to teach while at church is a joy.  Seeing these children gain more knowledge and understanding is a gift.  I am honored to be a small part of helping the children and families that enter this church grow.  I would love to see our children’s department continue to grow.

Children’s Ministry Coordinator

KAYLA BOWKER… “Teach your children two things and you've taught them well:
To love the Lord with all of their heart and to have a heart of compassion for others"
